Dick book, Dr. >Bloodmoney and have come across the phrases (mere pages >apart): > little tract houses > he paused for effect > >I know 'I pause for effect' appears in I Die You Die, but >cannot think of the song with 'little tract houses'. It is >part of a 'speaky bit', but what song is it?? Its driving >me crazy!! > I am fairly sure that line is from the 4th track on "Dance", "Cry the Clock Said". He mumbles all the way through the song about this and that. One of the only completely audible phrases is "little tract houses". Also, just a note on the gary bashing. I think it is important to be a rational fan of gary numan. While you shouldn't insult him every chance you get, there shouldn't be some blind devotion thing going on. Personally, though, the fans I've run across may be a little obsessed, but certainly not blindly devoted. We all have our songs/albums that we don't like. I still cannot get through "The Need" without taking the needle off, but beyond that I like the vast majority of his work. I don't know what motivates whining about gary on a fan board, but I think most of us can/will simply ignore it. btw, on a completely random note, does anyone know where I can find some gary numan synth patches. I've got a prophet 5 and I'm wondering if theres some resource out there detailing his patches... -Mark V. First they made the Hotlist of a Belgian Radio Station, (Studio Brussels-alternative) with +/- 8% market share. (that was 3 weeks ago). Last week, they were 'TasteMaker' of the most popular radio station (Donna-mainstream) with 35%. And they are the second highest new entry in the Belgian charts, dropping in at 34. (Here, we still have songs gradually going up the chartw week after week, not like in the UK where you enter as a top 10, and then you slowly slide into the lower parts of the charts. Where are the good times?). On the note of criticism that's been vapoured once again into the digest, I'd like to add my thoughts on this one. In front of 'outsiders', I will always defend Gary, whaterver happens (and it's not easy with some of Gary's own comments like saying he's not such a great musician, or singer, or mentioning that Freak like me is better than AFE). But, a low degree of criticism should be acceptable here. It is indeed a fact that in interview and even on his own website, Gary says he's not interested in the Charts anymore. Now he asks us to buy Exposure & RIP the first week, because a possible chart entry is possible. This is a weird contradiction, isn't it? But, no worries, I have called my friends who might be interested in these records, and placed an order through Amazon (pre-order) - does these sales count? - for 5 Exposures, and as soon as RIP is available, I'll do the same. It's a pity we'll have to wait another year for a new album. One point about the "EXPOSURE" compilation. A while back, when "DARK WONDER" was released, it was mentioned that Joey(?) wanted to include five tracks from PURE, but in the end they settled on three. Rod Reynolds (I think, correct me if I'm wrong by all means), pointed out that by putting five tracks from the same album on a compilation would mean buyers would have no real need to buy the original album. And what's on Exposure, but five tracks from Pure - obviously Gary think differently. Although I think Exposure is a very good compilation, I really think that they've missed an excellent opportunity to really celebrate 25 years of music. The album only really covers his current live output (first four albums + last three with Voix thrown in for good measure). When they said it was going to be the DEFINITIVE compilation, spanning labels, I was expecting more than this. To really celebrate, why didn't they put out a triple CD featuring EVERY SINGLE (in chronological order) that Gary has released - That's too bad thru RIP (as it's his next single). We already know he can get the IRS stuff as it was on NEW DREAMS FOR OLD, that only leaves the Sharpe+Numan stuff, plus the three Radio Heart singles (maybe the Fear Factory single as well), this then would truly have been a definitive compilation worthy of celebrating 25 years in the business. What does everyone else think? Dave. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 May 2002 10:05:16 -0600 From: "Joey Lindstrom" Subject: Administrivia In case anyone was wondering, yes, I did notice the little spat between Mark Henson and Zerfboy (which Zerfboy started, I might add). Both have been warned to curtail that type of behaviour here. Zerfboy decided that he didn't like being told to behave and has removed himself from our presence. Let's try to keep things civil, folks. :-) I've told Mark that he doesn't need to follow up on his little spat with Zerfboy, and now I'm telling everyone: it's over. Move on. :-) Please don't get the wrong idea: I'm in favour of as little censorship and rules-enforcement as we can possibly have. I don't mind seeing an argument get heated, maybe even a little personal, so long as: 1) It doesn't rage on too terribly long, and 2) It doesn't degenerate into the "you suck!", "yeah? so does your mother!" type of name-calling. In the preceding example, the argument actually STARTED at this level. Personally, I kinda enjoy it when person "A" reads something written by person "B" and decides that person "B" is full of shit, and CREATIVELY details the shortcomings of their argument (and maybe their personal hygiene). At the same time, though, let's try to remember also: this is the Gary Numan Digest, not the Creative Insulting Digest. I don't mind a bit of the latter, but it's important that we stick to the topic: Gary Numan. Simply noting that "asshole" and "Zerfboy" both have seven letters, or that "Gary" and "jerk" both have four letters, just doesn't meet the criteria. :-) / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / I went to a fancy french restaurant called "Deja Vu."
