I was interviewed (as the "orchid expert") for about ten minutes, and used the opportunity to promote the Numan theme. I wore my (autographed!) 2002 Pure US Tour T-shirt, that I picked up at the San Francisco show last year. (Was it that long ago??!!) So when people see me they will be looking straight at the words "Gary Numan"! It will be shown on Lateline, the current affairs show on the evening (around 10.30pm) of either today Wednesday 26th or tomorrow Thursday 27th. So the Aussies on this digest may wish to set their videos! Yes, this may be trival to some, but I got a kick out of it. Hello to my American buddies!! regards, David ******************************************** David P. Derek ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Jun 2002 23:46:43 -0700 From: Rod Reynolds Subject: Re: Berserker DVD Format Yes, I believe this is incorrect. Japan is NTSC and not PAL and/or region 2; man= y Japanese DVDs will play in North America (I have a couple Carpenters DVDs from Japan).=20 I think whether it is region coded or not, and it is PAL format, it won't work in North America. I could be wrong but I don't see how that would work. I have a Robbie Williams DVD from the UK that won't play in my DVD player, even though it is not region encoded. The new ABBA dvd is not region coded (or region code 0), but it is NTSC format, hence, I don't think it will play in Australia or the UK (for example).=20 It is confusing. =20 I'm sure there's a website out there that explains it all. And I know many people who say you can get around the regional encoding but when you press for specifics they stop talking. *shrug* It is very frustrating to have dvds released (the new Roxette and A-ha dvds are region 2 format) that we can't watch in the USA. (or Canada - although the Roxette DVD is supposed to be coming out there soon). I do have the Berserker concert on Laserdisc from Japan (NTSC format will play in North America). But my receiver only has one input labeled DVD/LD so I can plug in either the DVD or the Laserdisc but not both. DVD is much better. I honestly don't care much for live material anyway (I've never made is all the way through the Berserker LD); far more important to me is the "Video" collection that was promised two years ago. I think Gary has a lot on his plate at the moment. And yes, I do like ABBA, the Carpenters, Robbie Williams, Roxette and A-ha. LOL. Among way too many other bands and artists. Don't get me started... although I will say the David Sylvian concert last month was spectacular, and that I got to meet him before the show was a thrill. I also got to mee= t Simple Minds the other day, which was fun (even though there's only two of them left). I had them sign my New Gold Dream LP (the marble vinyl version= ) and we laughed about how it's 20 years old!!! Yikes! Perhaps I'll buy those singles after all! Or, should I just wait until the three new versions of the older songs show up on another new compilation? Ah, decisions. The prices are 3.99 UK pounds and 2.99 UK pounds respectively, which >is around $6 US. We can abbreviate US Dollars with $US, how does one >shorthand type out UK pounds? We use GBP for that. There's an "official" three-letter abbreviation for each world currency. Some examples: GBP = pounds sterling (Great Britain Pound) USD = US dollar CAD = Canadian dollar AUD = Australian dollar EUR = Euro DEM = Deutschemark (no longer used, just for example) The problem with using symbols like $ is that they don't necessarily translate, so these three-letter abbreviations work better. I got bit by the A3 problem once, and it got Mr. Numan particularly mad at me. I'd seen him make some statement, I think about how much money he'd spent on a tour or something, in that format. I added the "3" to the front and repeated the story on my website. He accused me of being irresponsible. :-) We got it all resolved tho. / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / "A herring is just a herring, but a good cigar is a Cuban." / --Everything I Need To Know I Learned From Babylon 5 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 00:20:45 +0100 (BST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?NumPet?= Subject: Shorthand UK Pounds > how does one > shorthand type out UK pounds?
