Here in New Zealand and, I assume, Australia it is almost impossible* to buy a region 4 only player. Most importers get them 'multi zoned' at the factory or modded before retail sale, otherwise no one buys them. One of the reasons is the quite appaling number of titles that are not released in Zone 4 (or are delayed releases, sometimes 6 to 9 months) and so most people end up importing the Zone 1 (US) or Zone 2 (UK) version. Even the DVD (disc) retailers stock some zone 1 titles. The movie distributors here have also been known to distribute non Zone 4 titles (Columbia Tristar distributed the Region 1 version of 'Final Fantasy' here) Most DVD players here are Japanese and there are few, even at the budget level, that don't have NTSC/PAL conversion. This is also the case for Televisions. I have a Grundig TV (German) and this is multistandard as are most other European sets from what I can gather. It would be quite difficult to buy a Zone 4/PAL only setup here. Whilst we often think of the USA as being 'lucky' to be able to get the widest range of titles, I guess we are also lucky for the fact that, if we are prepared to import them, at least we can watch them. There is also a third issue and that is one of picture quality, with PAL offering greater vertical resolution. If you have a PAL setup it pays to buy the PAL disc, unless the video source was NTSC and has been converted when mastered to disc, in which case price wins. Back to Numan: Roll on 29 July, 2002. Although I'll have to wait to get mine shipped from the US, because it is very unlikely that this will be available locally. It is called Industrial Nation, and I have included a link to their website below. a quote from that first page "Are you sick of magazines not covering the bands you think are important? Well, get off your ass and do something about it! IndustrialnatioN Magazine, a volunteer collective of electronic music enthusiasts founded in 1991, is looking for people interested in doing interviews, reviews, and feature articles in all the following music genres:" http://www.industrialnation.com/index2.html hmm, sounds intersting. I wonder if they received a promo copy of Pure last time around? Anyone up to the challenge of writting a well written piece for submission when the new CD comes out?(the next all new CD, not just the current Exposure) Mark Hubbard ------------------------------ End digest@garynuman.info Digest [06/28/2002 18:01] --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced, moderated, and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, davdat@allmusic.com, Joey@GaryNuman.Info Back Issues: http://digest.garynuman.info ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: digest@garynuman.info If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: listserv@GaryNuman.info and include this line as the first line of your message body: SUBSCRIBE digest@garynuman.info (email address) or UNSUBSCRIBE digest@garynuman.info (email address) (email address is optional but useful if you have multiple addresses) If you want to switch between receiving Digests or individual posts, again send to listserv@GaryNuman.Info and include either of these in your message body: NORMAL digest@garynuman.info or DIGEST digest@garynuman.info ------------------------------------------------------------------ Please note: this mailing list is configured to automatically unsubscribe you if mail to your mailbox goes undeliverable for any reason.
