Wondering if anyone can give this poor Yank a hand at figuring out the best way to get to the festival from London (I'm guessing by train from Paddington to Reading Station).....any Numan Digesters going this year? I'd love to meet a few of you :) Please keep me posted! Some time ago I joked that Gary was going to denounce his entire 'machine' era in his self-effacing modesty as he turns a harsh critical eye to his own artistry. At least, I THOUGHT I was joking. In his book, in contrast, he said he deliberately contrived a visual image to accompany the music he was creating; there he was taking full responsibility for that aspect of his art. I've always thought his taking that additional step was what galvanized the New Romantics as a genre. And now here he is, shrugging it off. Maybe Gary's got religion. Maybe he's become a Buddhist and is practicing the undermining of the ego that's part of the path to enlightenment? I suppose humility is certainly a rare trait in a music icon, but it's starting to seem like he's dismissing everything he's ever done. Gary has made a unique contribution to music. I think he deserves credit for that. Even from himself. Ben ------------------------------------------- Introducing NetZero Long Distance Unlimited Long Distance only $29.95/ month! A good place to start would be "Blade Runner". :-) This movie was based on his story, "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?", and clips from it appear in many Numan songs. Also, Numan's song "Time To Die" is directly influenced by the Rutger Hauer soliloquy near the end of the film ("like tears in the rain"). / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / I saw a tree fall in the woods, and I didn't hear it. / --Steven Wright ------------------------------ End digest@garynuman.info Digest [07/01/2002 18:01] --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced, moderated, and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, davdat@allmusic.com, Joey@GaryNuman.Info Back Issues: http://digest.garynuman.info ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: digest@garynuman.info If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: listserv@GaryNuman.info and include this line as the first line of your message body: SUBSCRIBE digest@garynuman.info (email address) or UNSUBSCRIBE digest@garynuman.info (email address) (email address is optional but useful if you have multiple addresses) If you want to switch between receiving Digests or individual posts, again send to listserv@GaryNuman.Info and include either of these in your message body: NORMAL digest@garynuman.info or DIGEST digest@garynuman.info ------------------------------------------------------------------ Please note: this mailing list is configured to automatically unsubscribe you if mail to your mailbox goes undeliverable for any reason.
