'Morning 'Gesters, I'm sure I'm not the only one who is disappointed with the limited edition of RIP. You could say that it defeats the purpose... So Gary's made Top 30 - and has nowhere to go after that because there's simply not enough copies of RIP to be bought/ Artful have spent so much time & money on promotion - I can only wonder why they didn't then invest some of that into more copies of RIP to make sure it could go as far as possible - surely that would have helped Artful Records reap back the money spent on promotion? But yet again we 'noids are left with only the hope that next time, Artful will print sufficient copies of the next single so Gary can go all the way - however far that is. It has now been proven that he can go Top 30, so Artful stand to gain everything by ensuring the next single/album stands every chance of reaching the highest it could go. Hell, with the current exposure (so to speak) the next single *could* go Top10.... Let's hope it gets the chance. Cheers, a Numpet. ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Everything you'll ever need on one web page from News and Sport to Email and Music Charts http://uk.my.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Jul 2002 17:57:22 -0600 From: "Joey Lindstrom" Subject: Possible service outage coming I recently sent the following message to all of my customers here. Since this also affects The Gary Numan Digest, I am sending a copy here as well. Note #3 under "What This Means To You below. ======================================================================== There is a possible service outage coming that you should be aware of. This will affect users of the following domains: albelin.com berrington.ca calgaryweb.net garynuman.info globerg.ca gonetoearth.com heatherlaird.com interocitor.net iprayforu.com klusendorf.net lairdsflooring.com lanceberrington.com leaming.ca lindstrom.ca lufirstresponse.ca neustaeter.com oldtimeradiovault.com proctermail.com purvision.com sonicspaceagency.com thurlow.ca tommyalbelin.com wtng.info What's Going On --------------- About three weeks ago, I was informed that Cadvision Development Corporation, which was purchased by Telus on October 12th 2001, will cease operations effective Friday July 12th. Unfortunately, Cadvision is my primary internet service provider, and provide my main DSL line (the connection to the internet). This line handles most of the traffic to the various websites and email addresses that I'm responsible for. Cadvision did offer me the option of switching over to "Telus Managed Business Class Internet Services". Had I done so, the service outage would have only been about an hour in duration. However, it would also have meant a huge price increase starting on December 15th 2002, of about 140%, which I would then have had no choice but to pass on to you. One day after receiving this notification, I decided to decline the Cadvision/Telus offer, and contracted with Nucleus Information Systems to install a replacement DSL service. For this, two things needed to be done: 1) A new telephone line needed to be installed. This was done on July 3rd. 2) Nucleus needed to provision DSL service to that line. Actually, what happens is that Nucleus submits an order with Telus Advanced Communications, which provides the actual DSL service to the line and then connects that service to Nucleus. Originally we were told (by TAC) that the service would go live on July 5th. However, when the day arrived, and I plugged in the equipment, I found that the service wasn't activated. I have now been told that TAC, due to an unanticipated (really???) plethora of new service requests, bumped back my service commencement date to July 16th, four days AFTER the Cadvision service is scheduled to go offline. A suspicious person might conclude that this was intentional, that by doing this I might be persuaded to forsake switching to a new ISP and stay with Telus. But I'm not that suspicious. Are you? :-) My Nucleus service rep, David Irons, tells me he is going to try very hard to convince TAC to get this service activated sometime this week, hopefully by the 12th. If that happens, I am already prepared to cut all services over from Cadvision to Nucleus. But there is no guarantee that this will happen, and that likely means we're going to lose the main service line for a period of 4 days. What This Means To You ---------------------- The following assumes that there WILL be a service outage. Obviously, if we're able to get the install date moved up to this week, all of the following is moot. :-) 1) Your email service will be temporarily unavailable. Please note, however, that I do have some redundant servers and DSL lines that will be able to catch your INCOMING email and forward it to the main server here, but YOU will not be able to actually access your mail until the main line comes back online. In other words, if somebody sends you email during the downtime, your email will not "bounce" back as undeliverable. It will arrive on my network and you will be able to access it upon recommencement of service. 2) Your websites hosted here will also, similarly, be unavailable. Anybody trying to surf to your pages will, alas, not be able to get through. Because I have backup DNS servers located on other DSL lines and at one off-site server, your domain names will continue to resolve, so people won't see any "invalid address" error messages. 3) The Gary Numan Digest will continue to receive postings and will "publish" them, but they won't be delivered until resumption of service. 4) Your account will be credited for these 4 days (or however long the service is actually down). I can't reasonably charge you for service I haven't provided. :-) As I've mentioned, I do have some other DSL lines here (also provided by Nucleus). However, I am contractually obligated to use these lines only for customers of the www.oldtimeradiovault.com website, so I cannot temporarily reconfigure things here to use one of those lines. Even if I did, the line would be shared with www.oldtimeradiovault.com subscribers, who use ALL available bandwidth on these lines 24 hours a day - your websites and email would run so slow as to be nearly unusable. Therefore, for those two reasons, I've ruled that out. I do apologize for all of this. I had hoped that this could all have taken place "behind the scenes", with a pretty-much seamless integration from the old service to the new service (with both running parallel for a couple of days while IP assignment changes propagated throughout the internet). Had it worked out that way, you would not have seen any change (or interruption) in your service. Circumstances beyond my control have resulted in this possibly not being the case, and thus we have the current situation. I actually have reasonably high hopes that David Irons can wangle the bump-up in the service date, but since there's no guarantee, I wanted to be sure that you were informed of what was happening.
