Rod Los Angeles ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Jul 2002 23:09:35 -0700 From: Derek Langsford Subject: singular choices While Gary probably had solid reasons for picking the tracks that he released as singles (assuming it was his choice) I find some of the choices decidedly dodgy e.g. "This Wreckage" when "Joy Circuit" or "I'm an Agent" seemed much more obvious contenders as singles from "Telekon." Still here are my faves in no particular: 1. I Die: You Die 2. Down in the Park 3. Music for Chameleons 4. I Still Remember (RSPCA version) 5. We Take Mystery (to Bed) Honorable mentions to Complex, America, Heart and Absolution And how about least favorite singles (excluding collaborations so as to make this at least a little bit challenging). I'll get a lot of flak for these I'm sure: Sister Surprise (unmusical) This Wreckage (I like the song but not as a single) I Can't Stop (although the single versions are more interesting than the album version) My Dying Machine (one of Gary's most boring songs IMO) Emotion (horrible song that got terribly overexposed on numerous releases) ttfn, Derek ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Jul 2002 00:15:38 -0700 (PDT) From: keith thripp Subject: My top five --0-321500687-1027581338=:86357 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Hi Guy's i suppose it would rude not to post my top five. 1 Warriors ( Mad Max ! my all time film) 2 Sister Surprise ( Same as above) 3 Bleed ( for someone who is not in to drugs the words are really mind bending) 4 Car's "E Reg" ( Same year as my van) 5 White Boy's & Hero's ( Just liked the track ) I could really do a top twenty as there is loads of good stuff as i think Pure is good as well so, Kind Regards Keith Thripp (Portsmouth UK ) --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Top 5? Difficult one... as with lots of people I'm sure, there are way too many favourite singles to rank them. Heres mine in no particular order:- Absolution (Didn't enjoy this one at first) Dominion Day I die you die Down in the Park Complex I really do find that my favourite GN tracks keep changing. If I emailed tomorrow, I doubt I would list the same ones. Also the singles that Gary has put out are definately not always the top of my list! Question. Does anyone out there also prefer the extended albums to the originals? Out of all of Gary's music, I definately prefer the 12" extended mixes (except 'listen to my voice'). To me albums like Exile and Sacrifice cannot be listened to unless its the extended versions. There is so much more 'music'! Brilliant stuff!! Not that M+S is my favourite album, but even this one extended is better than the original IMO. While I'm emailing the group..... Has anyone out there managed to 'rip' (no pun intended) M.E. from the new CD single? For some strange reason I can't make an MP3 of this track for my player. No problems with the other tracks on either single, but M.E. just errors half way thru. BTW, has anyone heard any more news on the DVD that is (was anyway) planned from the filmed concerts earlier this year? While RIP was being released Gary Numan was at 49. To give you something to compare that with, Metallica at that point was number 10, who are very very popular worldwide. So I reckon that was a very decent effort! Gary then went down to 103 but this week is back up up up to 74! To compare this week: Pet Shop Boys are at number 5, Kylie at number one, Red Hot Chili Peppers at number 28, and Gary has beat the following: Marilyn Manson at 83, Nirvana at 87, J-Lo at 99 and Smashing Pumpkins at 114. In conclusion: Gary's Popular!!!! Cheers all! ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
