I saw this on Ebay, and thought I would pass it along. It is by a group called Uthanda, and they, of course, cover Cars. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=901934887 Take care, Mark Hubbard ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Sep 2002 21:57:59 -0400 (EDT) From: Sean Crist Subject: "The rhythm of the line went dead" (Randomly generated Numan) For your entertainment, here are some randomly generated Numan lyrics. The way these were generated is as follows. First, I downloaded all the Numan lyrics from the web. Then I cranked them all thru a program which counts how often each sequence of three words occurs (for example, "in the dark" occurs 11 times in all of Gary Numan's lyrics). The program then uses the resulting table to randomly generate new lyrics based on the probabilities in this table. For example, if the last two words we chose were "in the", the next word might be "dark", "night", "park", etc.; but "dark" is more likely to be chosen because "in the dark" occurs 11 times in the original lyrics, and "in the night" occurs only 2 times. So if the original lyrics contain "You are in my vision" and "Here in my car", the program might come up with "You are in my car" (and it did). Here are some of the other lyrics the program came up with: The rhythm of the line went dead Remember, I need a friend of mine And I know how it feels like I should grow wings She knows how to hide in my voice unheard And I shouldn't be here for a cure I could give in, watching us fall And I don't love you forever Can they say that I'm all over my face Nothing seems to work by proxy The tape is a puppet who dances Please one more chance to leave soon He will tear the sky for you at all Tomorrow the cure and disease' Move out, I wonder if you knew? I can't believe what I'm doing outside I want your number as you can crack Where the victims are all invited to the cafe I hear you laugh when the heartbeat stops A dream of wires, the clock said In the dead line for now that's all I need others Don't play games, you know, you know' Crash? The driver wants to touch me with your painted little fingers But who's got a story 'bout a friend called 'Five' I'm talking to the aliens I forget how to stand in the hallway And I'm sure I'm guilty of some things now I'll show you some things now I vote for sleep to come home to me' Jack Burroughs says 'What you on man to get away I see them glancing at the end of the evening I'm not asking for your opinion Say you've got the need Lovers are fools in the park And realise there's nothing much to keep running A vision from the crash We're in the guards I've got the screams of men It's been doing that for years and years Remember, I am the law Did you know that I'm here to pick up the pieces Remember, I don't believe you My Jesus is like the set, so come closer Thought you'd slip away from everything I've seen' I've got the hook You changed my life away You won't like this thing is over I don't love you till God comes and takes me back to haunt me inside She's like the actors But nothing's ever quite like the set, so You don't need this anymore I'm thin, far too cool One game, you know Mr. Jones I vote for sleep to come home to me' We slide into the face of love Oh I've never felt bad You are all invited to the shadows talk to me You can scream if you want it We're from the factory and we've come to Earth in search of us Please one more chance to leave you behind the wall \/ __ __ _\_ --Sean Crist (kurisuto@unagi.cis.upenn.edu) --- | | \ / http://www.ling.upenn.edu/~kurisuto/ _| ,| ,| ----- _| ,| ,| [_] | | | [_] ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Sep 2002 08:38:57 +0100 From: "Garland, J."
