Here is my top five in no particular order (I think) 1. Jim Collins- Jo the Waiter (Church of Gary Numan) 2. An Pierle- Are Friends Electric 3. Fear Factory- Cars 4. Nine Inch Nails- Metal 5. St Entienne- Stormtrooper in Drag I'll also admit to really loving Terre Thaemlitz's covers of Numan that have come out over the years. I'm really interested in the artists that take Numan material and do really original stuff to it and provide unique interpretations, hence the list above. All of these artists really put themSELVES into their interpretations with some damn fine results! I'm still hoping to get together with Jim Collins one of these days and record some stuff with him, if he's still up to it :) Bye for now! I don't know why... it just needed a name. I have been getting some wonderful feedback. I appreciate all the kind words. Troy L. Respectfully Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Oct 2002 17:23:11 -0500 From: "Val & Ben Iglar-Mobley" Subject: new poll from digest town > Hey Ben, how do you feel about being the official > vote tabulator again? Sure, I'd be glad to. You know me. > you know, a list of eligible songs would come in handy > right about NOW. I'd like to oblige, Rod, but I don't quite get the idea behind this one. I don't see how we can put covers by other bands in with songs that are original to Gary's rendition. I understand that there are songs Gary hasn't written, but his singing them has kind of made them "his." If I were running this, I'd limit it just to favorite covers by other artists. (And I'd include in that all the songs on "The Mix" and "Random 2." If it's another artist creating new music for a song Gary's already done, it's a cover... even if it's Gary himself contributing the vocals. That just means it's Gary contributing the vocals to somebody else's cover.) I mean, I really can't see how we can compare songs Gary's done to songs of Gary's other artists have done. So... following my self-imposed restrictions, this is how I'd pick my top five: 1) "Down In The Park" -- Offworld 2) "Down In The Park" -- Terre Thaemlitz 3) "Down In The Park" -- Jimi Tenor 4) "Dans Le Parc" -- DJ Hell 5) "Cars" -- Abunai Hmmm, notice a trend here? Surprises even me to see. Don't know what it means. That song actually only placed sixth on my entry in poll of Gary songs overall.
