That again omits a lot of stuff. I see that Fear Factory's "Cars" has landed in a lot of top-five lists, but this poll would remove that one from contention. You pointed out the biggest flaw of this poll, and that is: many folks haven't HEARD a lot of this material. So what I'm thinking is: let's turn that flaw into an advantage, and change the purpose of this poll to "let's let everyone hear what they've missed". Every song that landed in the top ten of the two previous polls has likely been heard by 99% of the viewers of this list. This poll would be different. So why not use this to everybody's advantage? What I propose is this: 1) We provide a better definition of which songs are eligible - maybe a large list, as you've provided (thanks Hansi) in your most recent post. 2) We throw away all the ballots received so far, and ask everyone to re-vote, this time (as per your suggestion) going with your top *TEN* favourites (in ranked order please). 3) When it comes time to producing the "audio version" like we've done the last two times, instead of just doing the "top ten", I can probably do the top thirty or forty songs (again, in "am radio" quality, good enough to let you hear what the song is like, but low enough to encourage you to BUY it if you like it). This could be broken down into several smaller files to make downloading easier as well (particularly by those with slow net connections). The point? When we're done, we'll not only have some "poll results", but we'll also enable people who haven't heard much of this material to finally get a chance to hear it. The downside is that some of this stuff might not be in my collection - for example, I don't have a copy of Replicas Rubato, so if any of those tracks made the top thirty or forty, I'd need to find a benefactor to send me some MP3's. :-) Whaddaya think? / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / "Share your second favorite thing in the universe with a friend." / --Everything I Need To Know I Learned From Babylon 5 ------------------------------ End digest@garynuman.info Digest [10/14/2002 18:01] --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced, moderated, and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, davdat@allmusic.com, Joey@GaryNuman.Info Back Issues: http://digest.garynuman.info ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: digest@garynuman.info If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: listserv@GaryNuman.info and include this line as the first line of your message body: SUBSCRIBE digest@garynuman.info (email address) or UNSUBSCRIBE digest@garynuman.info (email address) (email address is optional but useful if you have multiple addresses) If you want to switch between receiving Digests or individual posts, again send to listserv@GaryNuman.Info and include either of these in your message body: NORMAL digest@garynuman.info or DIGEST digest@garynuman.info ------------------------------------------------------------------ Please note: this mailing list is configured to automatically unsubscribe you if mail to your mailbox goes undeliverable for any reason.
