Gary Perkins assumes that most of us watch Alan Partridge! I have never dreamt that the man would actually be funny - I have never seen a trailer of him that suggested he might actually be funny! But I would have watched this if I had known!! Did anyone else see it? (For non-UK readers, he is (I understand) meant to be a radio presenter on a regional station.) Paddy Vickers ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Dec 2002 10:59:34 -0000 From: "Vickers" Subject: Exposure In response to Markus' comment about covers: was the sticker in German? It may have been a mistranslation, because I seem to remember that it said that it included tracks that **had** been covered by Marilyn Manson, etc., not that it included the covers themselves! Paddy Vickers ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Dec 2002 14:41:54 -0000 From: "Garland, J." Subject: Alan Partridge I thought that Alan Partridge's mimed fretless bass playing to 'Music = for Chameleons' was cringeworthy and a real embarrassment for Numan and = his fans. Partridge's character is so naff that anything he endorses is = subject to ridicule, and so it was in this case. I've had no end of = merciless mick-taking about it, and I certainly feel that Gary's = critical rehabilitation in the music world can only have been damaged by = Partridge's 'fandom'. "This House Is Cold" sends shivers up my spine; of course this could be because I only play it LOUD!! And the "Nameless & Forgotten" track from the Warriors period is quite a look into the past (1983)! I had the same thoughts and feelings when I first heard the title track to "Dance". The sax parts on "Nameless & Forgotten" are incredibly good IMHO; it's a shame it was never finished properly, but still is a great rarity for Numan collectors. BTW, I'm still sticking to my original post, the dog on the cover of "I Still Remember" is Lisa; not Spooky (as was mentioned he died during the making of Pure). I think Lisa dies many years ago. Just wondering if anyone can relate. Exceptions might be Telekon, and maybe Tubeway Army, since I think I bought those albums (vinyl of course, being the early 80's) during the summer, so to me they seem kind of "summery" and not so cold. I dunno. I don't think I can add much of interest by way of a review of I, Assassin and Warriors, other than that I like I, A. much more now than I did way back then (I feel the same way about Dance--I think for me both albums were kind of a let-down since Telekon simply rocked). As for Warriors I've almost completely lost interest in that album, it's one of my least favorites. I do like a few of the tracks a lot but mostly I feel it's just average at best. I will, of course, get the remastered versions of both!
