What do all of you think would have happened to Gary in his career had Gardiner lived and kicked drugs? Would Gary have still branched out and experimented with other bass players, thus bringing in saxophones and such? Or would Gardiner have still remained the core bassist? Would sounds of Numan's albums stayed within the classic oppressive sounds of Telekon? Would the Janet-Jackson sounding records of the late 80's have happened? Or are all the records that Numan has made still be the same? __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Gay himself on his web site said he found it funny. I am not a big fan of the man but i think we need to lighten up a bit. On another note I have ordered the Warriors and Assassins and am looking forward to hearing them again. I remember that on the warrior tour he added a kind of funky vibe to his music and in particular Cars was very good. Shame that there is no video of it. On another note is any on here a Terry Pratchett fan? and are there any numan fans in or around Bristol England? Cheers and Merry Christmas/Festive season/Holiday to you all Stephen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Dec 2002 21:26:25 +0100 From: "Markus Dietrich" Subject: Re: Exposure This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_000F_01C2A6DC.1EABB2A0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Thank you, Paddy. ------=_NextPart_000_000F_01C2A6DC.1EABB2A0-- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Dec 2002 21:51:35 -0000 From: "Steve Perryman" Subject: Alan Partridge I have spent most of the latest "I'm Alan Partridge" series cringing at what a twat the bloke is, rather than laughing. Subtlety has not been the strong point of this latest series, except for the "Music for Chameleons" bit, which was inspired. I wouldn't mind betting that whoever thought of using "Music for Chameleons" must have been a Numan fan, or knew one very well. I'm sure most viewers didn't get the fact that Partridge is a secret Numan fan, as a lot of people didn't recognise the song. In fact, the joke could be seen as being "one for the Numan fans". So, I didn't take offence, but then I'm not a 40-odd year old man that mimes the bass to "Music for Chameleons" when no-one's around. Although I still like the song and think the bass playing's excellent, it's not widely acknowledged as Gary's best, and comes from a point in his career when he still had a large following, but had also become incredibly uncool, so I don't think any damage has been done to Numan's current credibility. It's also very interesting that the program went out on the day that the re-issued "I, Assassin" hit the shops. A shrewd marketing move by Beggars Banquet perhaps? It would have far been worse if Partridge had been miming to "Pure" or "Rip", and it wouldn't have been as funny. ------------------------------ End digest@garynuman.info Digest [12/18/2002 18:01] --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced, moderated, and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, davdat@allmusic.com, Joey@GaryNuman.Info Back Issues: http://digest.garynuman.info ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: digest@garynuman.info If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: listserv@GaryNuman.info and include this line as the first line of your message body: SUBSCRIBE digest@garynuman.info (email address) or UNSUBSCRIBE digest@garynuman.info (email address) (email address is optional but useful if you have multiple addresses) If you want to switch between receiving Digests or individual posts, again send to listserv@GaryNuman.Info and include either of these in your message body: NORMAL digest@garynuman.info or DIGEST digest@garynuman.info ------------------------------------------------------------------ Please note: this mailing list is configured to automatically unsubscribe you if mail to your mailbox goes undeliverable for any reason.
